There are fiber arts events throughout the year, all over the country, and the world. We’ll do our best to highlight some of our favorites here and post on our Florida Fiber In blog when we know we’ll be attending. We’d love to see you out in the wild with your WIP and your latest fiber purchases!

Distaff Day, celebrated annually on January 7, marks the day after Epiphany and the traditional end of the twelve days of Christmas. Historically, it was when women returned to household chores and textile work like spinning wool or flax. The term “distaff” also became a symbolic word for female work and lineage. Modern spinners, weavers, and local guilds celebrate the day by gathering for communal “spin-ins” and sharing textile projects. Instead of an enforced return to hard labor, modern crafters use the day to honor textile history and the roots of handmade clothing.

The Festival’s mission is to celebrate and promote sheep and wool through presentations, competitions, and educational opportunities around the diverse range of sheep and wool-related products and activities; and to provide a marketplace for the amazing range of products and services supporting and reflecting the versatility and benefits of sheep production for food and fiber.
The Festival is organized and conducted primarily by volunteers from the sheep breeding and fiber arts communities.
